Why we built this

Every family we know has the same story. You mean to put the Qur'an on. You pick up your phone to do it. Forty minutes later you are somewhere else entirely and the house is still quiet.

Sakina started because one of us got tired of that loop and wired a speaker to a fridge magnet in a garage in Small Heath. It was ugly and the battery lasted two hours, but for the first time the Qur'an was playing in the kitchen every single day — because pressing it took less effort than not pressing it.

What we actually make

A single-purpose object. It does one thing extremely well and it cannot do anything else. There is no screen, no notification, no feed. A child can operate it before they can read. An elder can operate it without glasses.

What we will not do

• We will not add a screen. The absence of one is the entire product.
• We will not cheapen the recitation. Every recitation is complete — no fades, no edits, no compressed 64 kbps rips.
• We will not run fake countdown timers. If a sale ends on a date, that is the date it ends.
